REKORD Media is a Father and Son run company providing expertise in Photography and Video Production. After working in PR & Press Photography for 25 Years, Guy is now passing on the ‘tricks of the trade’ to son Jake, who is developing the film production side of the business including a commercial drone service, offering clients the opportunity to market their goods and services with promotional films on YouTube, their web site or on other social media channels. Find out more information about us below.
Guy Newman is an experienced and resourceful Exeter based PR, Editorial & Corporate photographer, working throughout the South West of England in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset & Dorset.
Working mainly on location, photographing people, property, food and products for a wide variety of PR, Editorial, Corporate and Marketing clients.
Guy learnt his craft as a trainee press photographer on the Plymouth Evening paper “I was lucky, I went straight from college into the hurly burly world of a daily paper. It was madness and magic all rolled into one but I loved it, especially getting a front-page picture!
From regional papers Guy started supplying pictures to the National Press “Working for The Telegraph one day and the Sun the next” sharpened his ability to ‘photograph the story’ and in the particular style of that paper. This experience has stood me in good stead, even today, I might need to adapt my style to help a client achieve the right look and feel for their new web site or brochure.
Guy is now passing those skills onto his son Jake, who joined the family firm in 2017. “Jake’s always had an eye for a picture, even as a young kid he’d pick up a camera and take a well composed picture. His real passion is producing films and has joined me to grow that side of the business but he can still take a cracking picture, so we make a good team!
It seemed obvious to stop trading as guynewman.co.uk and set up a business that we could both thrive in and then hopefully one day Jake will take on Rekord Media himself.
Guy is a member of Editorial Photographers UK (EPUK), is NCTJ Qualified and holds a valid CSCS (Construction Skills Health & Safety) card to work on construction and building sites.

“Don’t become a photographer, anyone can take pictures with their phone now” is what I heard most of my childhood from my Dad. He was right, most companies are now photographing anything and everything they see on their phones to put on their Facebook, Twitter or Instagram instantly.
There are many occasions when a phone picture just won’t cut it and you need a high quality composed image to support and compliment a great story for a newspaper, magazine, brochure or website. However, these occasions seem to be on the decline as social media is the cheapest and easiest way to get your message out to thousands.
So, I stuck to my Dad’s word and for most of my childhood I forgot about becoming a photographer. Instead I use the little red dot next to the shutter button that is “Record”. It’s a challenge and an opportunity to develop the family skillset – and business – into a whole new arena. My Dad’s father was a graphic designer creating stunning drawings for national advertising campaigns and following his passion for painting into his retirement.
My Dad has worked as a professional photographer for his entire career; starting in a darkroom at the local camera shop while studying photography at college to running his own press agency, supplying the national media and employing over 20 people. When I reflect on my heritage, it’s only right that my interest and motivation is with moving images to keep up with the ever-changing world of media.
With more content being created than ever before, it is vital to make your videos outstanding. It is my aim to step away from the somewhat ‘pedestrian’ corporate films you may have seen 10 years ago to create films that are eye-catching and able to get the story across succinctly, effectively and with impact. There’s no magic formula, simply a good understanding of the brief, a good eye for a great shot, confidence to interview and the ability to craft a story with clever editing and technical expertise.
Although we could all produce a video on our phone, having the right equipment certainly helps. Using high end 4K DSLR’s and accessories, I’m able to capture moving pictures that give a project a whole different dimension. Even aerial shots are now well within reach of most budgets, thanks to remote drone shots which have replaced the need to commission a helicopter or aeroplane. It is important to commission drone shots from a licenced drone pilot, like myself, to ensure that your aerial video meets all Civil Aviation Authority and Health and Safety requirements as well as all the necessary landowner permissions.
If you have a project that you would like to discuss, please give me a call or send an email.
